Did that title grab your attention?? Do YOU believe it? Did you watch the "Secret" a couple of years ago when it was all the rage? Even Oprah got on the band-wagon………with 3 Shows dedicated to the Author and contributors to the Book and DVD.
I'm a little embarrassed to say, I promoted it like crazy too.
Now, I'm not saying there isn't a lot of truth in the "Secret", but really there is nothing NEW in the teaching. Thousands of years ago God said it best.
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
" With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come cursing and blessing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so." James 3:10NIV
" Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts , do not boast about it or deny the truth." James 3:12-14 NIV
" …………..you do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures." James 4:2b-3 NIV
It is evident that the Lord wants us to prosper and have hope for the future, but how we believe in our hearts and how we speak play a HUGE part in whether we will prosper and be blessed or not.
Of course how we believe is colored by how we THINK and how we think is often on an unconscious level.
The "programs" that were installed during our "formative years", (between Birth and 5), will make all the difference in the world. For those of us brought up in very traumatic abusive homes our "programs" are full of poisonous viruses………..that need to be replaced with good clean "programs" of truthful statements.
Just like our Computers, sometimes we don't even know it is infected and it's only because of some weird behavior it starts doing that we realize something is out of whack.
Humans are much the same…….. Many times my behavior didn't match my conscious beliefs and I would do really "stupid" things…………with devastating consequences.
I had NO idea it was the programs installed by ungodly, Alcoholic parents who were incapable of giving me "Good, healthy Programming", that was actually running my "operating system.
Because I ran away quite young (17), I thought I was out range of their influence on me. I had NO idea I took all of "me" with me. Have you ever heard that saying, "Wherever you go, there you are?" LOL
I ran all my life thinking things would be better when I got "there", but somehow things always ended up the same…………
I learned from such people as Jim Rohn that if I changed my thinking, I could change my choice of words, and then I could choose different behavior, and THEN my life would change. I had it backwards for so long and because I didn't know different.
Even now I sometimes allow old "programming" to override my new beliefs. I thank the Lord for the many people who have been faithful to the truth of scriptures and continue to teach it everywhere they go.
It is who we ARE, then what we DO, that will determine what we HAVE.
The World teaches to Do, Have, then BE somebody…….. No wonder so many people are confused and frustrated by the Doing instead of Being……………..I hope you get this truth if you haven't already.
It just might save you years of struggling to get somewhere. God wants us to become the best WE, we can and according to scripture, that means becoming more like His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ.
He promises He will supply all our needs. Philippians 4:19
